Dallas is not short of tailors. In 2019 the Best of Big D list picked this one, and called it “a quaint brick home on West Lovers Lane.” It still is.

Our story

Two women, one shop, five decades of fittings.

Martha Hatcher opened this shop and ran it for thirty-one years.

Eta Gurban reached Dallas in 1990 from the Transylvania region of Romania, with her husband Peter and their daughter, resettled through Catholic Charities after the Romanian revolution. She was placed here within her first week in the city. She learned English and sewing side by side, and practiced at night on a machine Martha gave her.

In 2005 Martha handed her the business. The name over the door stayed Martha’s. The tailor you will meet is Eta.

When D Magazine came to write the shop up, it paid particular attention to her eye for the fit of a man’s suit.

The appointment request form is included with the site. The garment, the date it is needed by and how to reach the customer land in your inbox the moment they hit send. It says request on purpose: nothing holds a time until you confirm it.

A true Book button, where the customer picks from your open times and the slot is held, runs on an online scheduling service. That subscription is yours, in your own name, billed by the service at roughly $29 a month and up.
